Orangefield 1st XI v Shorts

Orangefield were looking for a much improved performance this week after a dismal performance last time out against Dunmurry YM.

The home side started brightly and moved the ball around well before taking the lead. Jonny Gibson swung in a corner which was met at the front post by Wilsy who steered it home with a deft flick of the right boot. This was short lived however as Shorts struck back almost immediately when a rash challenge in the box gave a penalty to the visitors. Keeper Andy McIntyre went the right way but it was a well hit penalty and found the back of the net.

Half an hour in, and Andy D’Arcy scored a terrific diving header, making up for a miss seconds before that went over the bar. Harvey collected the ball out on the left hand side, and after some good control and turn, crossed the ball into D’Arcy who made no mistake this time.

Half-time: 2-1

Good defending by Ryan Hardy and good covering by Sam McNaul at the start of the second half limited Shorts attacking options, and with Tony Craig and Dean Cousins keeping the ball moving in midfield, it looked as if Orangefield would get the next goal. Harvey, who was having a good game to this point leading the line up front, got his reward and struck his first goal of the game. Orangefield were now very much in control and playing with confidence, so it was no surprise that they got a fourth before the end with another good strike from Harvey.

A well deserved victory and a benchmark performance that Orangefield must look to repeat in all games.
